SAP Event Management (EM) provides visibility within your logistic processes, both in planning and execution.
You can use SAP EM to process different types of messages related to events in your transportation business processes.
You can include it in all planning and execution processes within logistics such as procurement, production, order fulfillment and asset management.
With SAP’s event management solution, you can plan and execute all your distributed processes within your logistics operations such as procurement, production, order fulfillment and asset management.
SAP EM monitors status changes in your business processes.
It matches the planned process with the actual process to detect exceptions.
It generates real-time notification of two types of events using an alert framework or workflow engine:
Planned Event
It is expected to happen.
Actual Event
It actually happens.
Regular Event
It occurs within planned period.
Early / Late Event
It occurs outside planned period.
Unexpected Event
It was never planned!
Unreported Eventuu
It was expected but never happened!
SAP Event Management within SAP Transportation Management monitors the execution of transportation processes as they happen according to the transportation plan. It is a ‘track & trace’ solution designed to support mutual visibility, collaboration, and data exchange with multiple business partners in your supply network.
SAP Event Management monitors all relevant events by processing and storing them in the system. A user interface is available that provides a comprehensive authorization and filter concept. With a role-based approach, you can view the same business processes from multiple perspectives:
Manufacturer
As a manufacturer, you want to know if different service providers are delivering your orders on time and in the right quantity.
Service Provider
As a transportation service provider, you want to know where a vehicle or a particular order is at a given time.
Customer
As an individual customer, you are interested in knowing when your order will be delivered.
SAP EM provides monitoring capability, in other words visibility, to any business process:
Partners
You can see how your partners are performing and react to deviations in certain events carried out by your partners.
Locations
If your process is intended to have Event A to end up at Location A but it arrives at location B, you can then raise an exception.
Measurements
You are transporting frozen goods from point A to point B and the temperature must not go above 10 degrees. If it arrives at point B at 11 degrees then you can raise an exception.
SAP Event Management also has different functions in a wide variety of industries:

SAP EM provides real-time end-to-end business process visibility and status monitoring. It offers a wide range of functions to monitor the execution of your business processes, report events, and automatically react on planned or unplanned situations.
SAP EM can be used for on-premise installations and SAP S/4HANA Supply Chain instances for transportation management in the private cloud. It can be installed either as a stand-alone solution or as an add-on to SAP S/4HANA full stack.
Additionally, it comes with a number of pre-configured tracking scenarios for transportation management.
SAP Event Management allows business users to manage processes by exception rather than monitoring processes that are running smoothly. Both manual and automatic exception resolution are supported. It can use rule-based triggering to automatically detect when certain predefined conditions occur. This can be expected events such as goods issue or goods receipt, or deviations such as significant delay of goods receipt, or damage to goods. Rules can also be used to trigger follow-up activities such as emailing users or updating backend systems.
